145# back squat

Happy dance was in full force last night, since I set a PR on the back squat. I tried to do what I could on the DL, but I stopped at 213#. Max is 228# & I sooo wanted to at least get to that, but my finger was hurting. And apparently I shouldn't have done that cuz it swelled pretty good last night. Whoopsies. Not bad, considering 3 weeks ago I couldn't do more than 115#!

Everyone had some amazing PRs last night though! It's such a good feeling when you see others making good progress. We all get pumped about it.  :)))

Visited CrossFit Toro Grande today with an old college friend. This box was in Cedar Park -- of which there were 4 affiliates all in the same city!! Sheesh, that's a lot in one general location. Anyway, it was a fun Saturday community wod. Would've loved to have incorporated some weights into the affair (the sleds were fun though!), but I was sore enough after the fact from the blasted bear crawls. They suck, btw.
I dig their logo

group shot after the wod -- they said it was a smaller turn out

One of the coaches was modeling the shirt size for me...

I'm making some good progress on front squats, so I decided to go ahead and work them tonight, rather than do the goblet squats. So 85# is BIG for me! It wasn't too long ago that that was my 1RM. I used the red band for pullups. It was probably a little too easy but since I was busting some veins in my forehead to do the FS I figure a little leniency in that dept was ok.  hehe  Oh, and tonight was our weigh-in and last photo shoot for the LuRong challenge. I'm happy to report I'm down 6lbs, and 23" total. And while I do plan to go a little lenient the week of Thanksgiving & probably again for Christmas, I'll be back at it after that. Next year, I intend to be showing off some 6-pack abs during summertime.  ;)

DLs were supposed to be heavy today, but broke finger can't handle it. So at the behest of coach, I went lighter and added a couple more rounds. LaDeeDah. Running still sucks, but at least tonight I felt like I was flying. Too bad I can't count though. I had to make up an extra 200m on the last round cuz thankfully Jenn pointed out that I was a bit short. So that made that last round seem a little long. But we had 2 new guys at the gym, and I didn't want to look too tired or scare them away. I sucked it up and just kept on keeping on. Sometimes, doing that is in and of itself a major feat & accomplishment. But I was pleased with my time when it donned on me that I was just a couple hundred meters shy of two miles and still fit in deadlifts. Not bad, not bad.

Such drama at work. I'm updating my blob from work which is kind of a no no if I spend too much time on it. Ppl are griping about another group because they think the other group looks down on us. Aren't we all adults here!? Sheesh. Sometimes, you gotta assimilate if your efforts to distinguish yourself just aren't working. We're IT for goodness sake! Thanks for reading my vent...   :P

Oh, and apologies for not having pics the last few nights. I'll get back on that STAT.

A WOD where I don't have to compensate for my finger! Going from rowing to DUs made the arms tiresome, but I had an aha moment while rowing. It's nice to get those.

11:47 scaled -- 105#, 18" box
Broke finger couldn't do the LuRong challenge Randy, one because of the broken finger, but also because when I did KBs the other night I rubbed the skin off my pinky finger overcompensating. It's rough not feeling like a loser. But you simply find something else you can do and mosey on with it. So I attempted another LuRong challenge scaled. I even managed to screw that up because the weight was too high for the scaled version, but I still came in under the original time, so go me, right? Adding 30#s to get back to the original weight would've been a close call as to whether or not I still stayed under my original time.

I went to the doc yesterday about my finger. It was really bothering me Friday ALL day long, so I finally relented & figured I'd go in Saturday morning and have the doc relieve the pressure on my fingernail by poking a hole in it. (That still grosses me out.) Turns out it wasn't necessary because the hematoma wasn't enough to warrant it. Doc said I could do it if I wanted him to, but that since there wasn't enough blood in the area then it'd probably hurt and I'd feel the heat from the needle. NO THANKS! He ordered xrays, and lo & behold found that the top was indeed broken. I knew something was off about it, cuz it didn't feel right & wasn't healing like I'd expected. I kept telling myself I was just being a wuss about it, not being able to grip or how it hurts after a bit of typing with it. Sheesh. Only another 4-6 weeks to go for recovery. Waaaahhhhh

Now for the bad news. I purposely did the KBs tonight in this wod to see if I'd be able to get at least 80 in a row for one of the final benchmark wods. I was able to do several rounds of 10 but quickly reduced to 5. Toward the end it was getting almost impossible. I overcompensated for not using the middle finger and rubbed the skin off my pinky. I won't be able to complete five rounds of 20 without my grip going to Hades. Nor can I finish Christine, with the DLs.  :(  I'm majorly bummed about it! Doc said pain should be my guidance on whether or not I do a movement with it. But also got the warning to not push it either. I swear, athletes make the worst patients...

But let's end on a good note:  I had a great weekend home alone & caught up on my DVR shows!!

Today was the day I was going to try one of the LuRong benchmarks again, Christine, I think. The one with DLs/rowing/box jumps. But I was simply warming up with DL and couldn't do it because my finger started hurting. It's really hard to grip anything and hurts like the dickens when I do. It's been 8 days since I smashed my finger. I'd have thought it's not so sore anymore since much of the bruising is subsiding. Major bummer. So instead, I did this wod that Jax came up with. It was a good one -- a lung-burning quick one!
