183# deadlift

Dunno that sticking my head thru gets the job done any easier, but when muscle failure begins to hit, every flailing attempt at the movement "might" help to complete it. hehe

LIKEMINDEDNESS
Yes, it's actually a real word. And because this is my blog, I can write about what I want, right? Yessirreee! So today I wanted to reflect upon an opinion that was encountered at the gym yesterday. There were two new ladies at the gym last night (see pic below). I gather they were semi-coerced into coming, but they made the effort to come out and break a sweat with us anyway. Step 1 accomplished:  just show up. As they were being shown the various movements that dealt with that day's wod, myself & Pedro began the wod. Now, I'm  not one of those ppl that would ever be able to make a workout video & look pretty doing it. Hats off to Jane Fonda & Jillian Michaels for looking good while doing their thing!! But nor am I one of those folks that yells out obscenities & sounds like I'm in labor all over again. Ok, ok... occassionally there may be some grunts and groans but I try to hold it to a minimum, especially when newbies are around. And I won't lie -- last night's wod was a vicious one! Anyone could tell the newbies were intimidated. And not just by myself & Pedro, but perhaps by the mere fact of being in a box with actual weights -- and Olympic weights! (Cuz boys only touch that stuff, right?) At one point I overhear their conversation with Jax - the coach - which consisted of muscle definition. Implementing myself into the conversation ever so briefly I stated, "why wouldn't anyone want a little muscle definition??!". Then returned to whatever it was I was doing? Well, it turns out after they left, Jax confided in me that we may  have scared off the newbies. Whoops. Apparently they didn't want to get bulky like me. BULKY?!

For a mere split second I was flabbergasted, shocked, insulted, and appauled at the thought. Then logic kicked in, and immediately I thought, "who wouldn't want to get healthier & sexier, especially with no clothes on?". I'm freaking proud of my progress as far as CrossFit and my body composition is concerned. I love the feeling of empowerment I get
and in turn it gives me a greater sense of self accomplishment and confidence. I've looked to other strong ladies as role models and find I don't mind if I can in turn provide such a notion to others there. Which finally leads me to the idea of likemindedness. What the freak is it, you ask!?? According to Merriam-Webster:  having a like disposition or purpose : of the same mind or habit of thought. We all strive to be unique, but do realize that unless there were other likeminded invidiuals out there who also thought the same thing, it wouldn't as cool to be unique. Therefore, I've come to learn the importance of surrounding myself with ppl who support my efforts. Going against the flow of traffic can be down-right exhausting! I'm not saying you shouldn't swim upstream sometimes just for a change of scenery, but it takes a really special person to keep on swimming in the face of opposite adversity. I'm a normal average person. I need and crave friends and folks around me who continue to share in my passion & adversity, and that keep me going strong and staying on the path. I need those ppl to lean on and take a break, then muster the strength to press on. And in return, I try to do the same. It's called a support system! It's that likemindedness that ppl rally around. And so, I've made the decision that if the new girls make it back to the gym, I will support them 100% in their efforts. Who knows?! Maybe their opinion will change & they'll realize it's ok to look like Jessica Biel instead of Nicole Richie. Simply (and naturally) enhancing the genetic dispoition the good Lord gave you isn't bad at all! It's a GOOD thing. So thank you to my supporters out there. Hopefully I can support you too!   Ranting over.

Totally stoked about the #s that got tossed on the board this evening. Especially mine -- I can toot my own horn cuz this is my own blog. But seriously, I like that I'm starting to [finally] see some major weight-bearing improvements in my shoulder! Both strength sets were personal records. And who says Friday the 13th is an UNlucky day?!?! OH, and I forgot to mention that on the OHS, I got to increase my 1RM for the snatch too. Previously it was only 68# -- I've gone up a whole 10#s!! WOOT WOOT.
