Mon 1/21 2013 -- I'm BAAAACK!

First, I just want to say that the FLU SUCKS! Yes, it wiped me out for two weeks. And when I say wiped, I don't mean it totally in a horrid way. Actually, the last time I remember having the flu was when I was a little kid. And it was horrible being posted up in bed, feeling like death warmed over (but then chilled again, as the fever made its vicious cycle). I'm one of those peeps that gets her flu shot every year, and this year was no different. So, I was actually surprised when the doc told me I had the flu. The only reason I went in was because I was running a fever & I figured better safe than sorry. The nasal swab for the flu test was highly uncomfortable & sickeningly gross! Another girl I know that got flu said her doc checked her by doing a blood test. Lucky duck. Anyhoo, by the time I'd realized I had it though, it was too late. My body fought off the fever a couple of days later, with no assistance from medication, but I was left feeling exhausted for another week thereafter. I'd walk around at work & would have to sit down after a bit. That's how tired I was. I'd say that was the biggest hinderance from the flu.

But this was my first wod back in the saddle, post-flu. I was in it to finish it, not pushing for time -- although I didn't do too badly on time itself. Yes, I took a couple more breaks than I normally would, but I didn't care. I finished! And with the tall box and 25# overhead for the lunges. Go me! I'm on the fast track again.

I wanted to showcase a new paleo recipe I tried from a cookbook my in-laws gave me for Christmas. Steak rolls, which contained apple, celery, onion, garlic, bacon, and thyme. It turned out pretty darn good, but took a bit of prep work due to having to beat the snot out of the meat so it's nice & thin enough to roll.
